Mitsubishi Narrow Pixel Pitch Direct View LED at Infocomm

Our Infocomm 2018 (iC18) trip was an insightful journey, not something you would ideally say when you go to Vegas! Talking to customers, partners and feasting our eyes on the latest technological offerings spreading across Audio, Digital Signage, Event Production, Integrated Life, Unified Communications & Collaboration, Accessories, Consoles, and Furniture was a gratifying experience, to say the least.

The iC18 was well organised (as you would expect), but what made it memorable was how the event used an App

to help you navigate through the exhaustive, crowded event. Their mobile app helped us locate exactly the exhibitors that we were looking to meet. This was really a deal breaker because Prabha and I had just one day to cover the entire show. We chose to spend our valuable time browsing through exhibits of Virtual Reality, AI, New Display technologies etc., apart from meeting our OEMs based in the USA.

Some of the most prominent principals we met include, Crestron, Mitsubishi Electric, Draper, Biamp, Soundtube, Kramer. I want to focus the rest of this blog talking about an offering from Mitsubishi that blew my mind – the Display Wall Direct View LED. The latest Mitsubishi’s offering is a beast that is designed to deliver a smooth flow of information for 24/7 continuous operation environments. The product is no doubt a gift for the Command Control centres and mission-critical applications with abundant features and pleasant video rendition for the eyes. With 1.5 mm NPP – LED, Mitsubishi ups the ante in the high definition, indoor exclusive space. The use of NPP – LEDs have ensured smaller pixel size, and pixel pitch as compared to the conventional indoor/outdoor LED displays allowing businesses to create seamless display walls with wide viewing angles in large installations.

Delivers smooth and consistent graphics without the vertical and horizontal black lines appearing in large-screen multi-display walls.

Narrow Pixel Pitch Direct View LED screens are available as rear access and front access models.

As compared to 10 mm pixel pitch in conventional indoor/outdoor LEDs, Mitsubishi’s NPP – LED offers 1.5 mm pixel pitch. Pixel pitch refers to the density of pixels; a smaller pixel pitch suggests higher pixel density and greater resolution. Pixel influences viewing distance, the smaller the pixel pitch, the closer the viewing distance and this means, an image achieves smoother borders and finer detail with lower pixel pitch values.

The image luminance is constantly monitored and adjusted by the dynamic power consumption feature, not only saving power but also reducing operator eye-fatigue – a critical factor in control room applications. The LED’s dual-loop signal inputs and redundant power supplies ensure the display continue to function in the event of power failure. Mitsubishi has also incorporated the Natural Colour Matrix System found in its DLP products into the 15-NP, along with a specially developed 2-dimensional noise reduction system to reduce visible noise in compressed content such as an MPEG video.

Mitsubishi Electric’s Direct View NPP – LED has a lifetime rating of 100,000 hours till half-brightness. It is designed for continuous 24/7 operations that are often required for mission-critical environments.

LED brightness gradually diminishes over time as the display gets used. Anti-Burn-In corrects display variations and anomalies. As a result, uniform luminance and chromaticity are preserved longer over the lifetime of the display.

Wider colour reproduction range for brilliant, vivid displays.

Optimal contrast ratio shows more details, even with darker contents.

Though the product is ready to ship, order to delivery would take a minimum of 8 to 12 weeks as there is high demand across the globe.

There are many new players joining the AV Industry and the most interesting ones to my knowledge are the following:

  • Dolby Laboratories – now focussing on Meeting spaces
  • QBIC – Desk booking & Workspace Management
  • Holosonics – Audio Spotlight – A revolutionary audio technology that creates sound in a narrow beam

Did you get to see this new offering? Do let me know your thoughts.
